(except everyone loves him and showers him with praise and tries to get on his good side) he's SO lonely! (except he k rating this based on what i've read of the fan translations, i just hate having read a whole novel's worth of content and not being able to review my thoughts on GR lol。3。5/5, the underworld arc was neat, but。。。 agh。。。 chu wanning。。。 he's so clearly the author's pet and he keeps getting thousands and thousands of words woobifying him。 he's SO mistreated by the cultivation world! (except everyone loves him and showers him with praise and tries to get on his good side) he's SO lonely! (except he knows exactly why he's lonely - bc he's too proud, has a terrible temper, and intentionally doesn't reach out to others, all things which he knows and can change) idk it feels like the third person omniscient narration (and the pov jumps around so much and makes little narrator judgements and observations too often for me to accept that it's third person limited) is HEAVILY biased in favour of painting chu wanning as a poor, sympathetic character。 he's actually an asshole and emotionally stunted, but this is treated as "cold, removed, cool jade" and "just how he is, oh youuu" and mo ran and everyone else fawns over him endlessly。other gripes i have with the story, which i'm gonna pile here bc i've finished reading all the fan-translated chapters:- the treatment of female characters is this novel is terrible and sexist and i hate it。 they're all useless, annoying to others, horrible people, or dead。- the novel is actually very prudish about sex lmao, which is ironic。 i mean this in the sense that sex is treated as wrong and immoral and disgusting, even when it's consenting, like mo ran going to brothels, and rong jiu prostituting himself to literally survive。- characters who choose to take care of themselves and to survive, rather than go out in a blaze of glory as heroes and nobly sacrifice themselves, are demonized as selfish, terrible, pathetic people。 rong jiu, song qiutong, others i forget。 then they have other stereotypically evil acts added so it's all conflated, and the result of this signals that if you aren't a big selfless hero, you're lowly, sad trash。- ugly people are all evil or bad lmao- the story reiterates the same things over and over again。 the pining, the misunderstandings, the pity parties, even the same flashbacks (like the wontons) have repeated like five times now。 oh my god it's literally like serialized anime, the author doesn't expect you to remember anything and there's zero subtlety or nuance。i'm still giving this 1 star for the great worldbuilding, 1 star for the side characters like xue meng who are so much more interesting and likeable, and 1 more star for the interesting premise and concept。 but 0 stars for the characterization, pacing, and general writing。 。。。more

The pain 💔
vale,
realmente el final es bastante conveniente, sin embargo la trama es buena, la relación queda en un segundo plano y se siente un poco artificial al terminar el libro

Mo Weiyu!!! You better not die again!!!I am so glad Taxian-Jun stuck around。 My man is epic and deserves to stay。 And Shizun。。 please someone let me know where I can find a Shizun like Chu Wanning 😭Loved this story。 Loved Meatbun's writing style。 I can't wait to read the extras!!!The best bits about Meatbun's writing for me: I think Meatbun is really good at making me feel things。 She could definitely make me cry or get excited with a single sentence。 I think that's amazing。 I also loved it that she kept me grounded in the book at all times。 She describes minor things like a breeze sneaking in through the window or how the clothes move when someone is fighting and these make it easier to picture the scenes very well。 I appreciate that。 The story also felt complete。 That was nice。 。。。more
